Ouena works with struggling Palestinian families to help them start small businesses. The economic conditions in the Gaza Strip are tough. Unemployment hovers above 50%, Skilled workers are unable to find jobs. Our team has met with Palestinians with various advanced degrees that are unable to find work as well. Palestinians in Gaza are among the most educated in the world. Literacy is at 99%. And a significant amount of Palestinians pursue higher education.
Our nonprofit, through a grassroots approach, invests in small business. We have helped mutltple families with various projects. Among the projects we have funded are a bicycle shop, a few clothing stores, a butcher shop, and small sustainable farms.
For our various projects such as water development and food aid we partner with local businesses to ensure that the economic benefits of our projects are felt locally. When we purchase food for our food aid baskets we use local stores and tuk-tuk drivers to help distribute the aid. Every project includes economic goals and is done with the intention to create jobs in the Gaza Strip.
